SINTEF Ocean AS
SINTEF Ocean is a multidisciplinary research institute within the SINTEF Group, Scandinavia's largest independent, non-profit research company with about 2000 employees doing contract research within a wide range of disciplines. SINTEF is located with offices in Norway, Denmark, Brazil, USA and Chile, with the head office in Trondheim (Norway). SINTEF Ocean employs 320 people who undertake about 600 projects per year under the vision "Technology for sustainable utilization of marine biological resources". SINTEF Ocean is a multidisciplinary research institute representing technological expertise and industry knowledge along the whole fisheries and aquaculture value chain from production and harvest of marine biomass to processing, distribution and traceability of seafood and other marine products.
SINTEF Ocean will contribute to DIGIRAS by making available state-of-the-art microbiological laboratories equipped with DNA extractors, digital electrophoresis and documentation systems, qualitative and quantitative PCR instruments (real-time and digital), single molecule sequencing technology and bioinformatics. Furthermore, SINTEF Ocean will provide chemistry instrumental park including range of high performance MS, TOF, FID, HPLC and FT-IR machines. The institute is also hosting the Norwegian Plankton Technology Centre with cultivation systems for various aquatic organisms, including a miniRAS (Spranger) composed of 4 identical and independent systems. Moreover, equipment and competence for high-resolution under-water video surveillance is available in house.
